With talk about the new fall TV lineups all over the place, I started thinking about my own TV lineup. If someone asked me what my top five favorite shows were, what would I say? This is a tough question for me--have you seen all the shows I watch? I gave it some thought and finally came up with my Top 5 list. Before I reveal my shows, I must preface this list by saying that I only chose from the pool of shows currently on basic cable TV. This obviously does not include premium channels like HBO and Showtime since I don’t subscribe to them and only watch those shows on DVD. I'll save those for another post. So, without further ado…
VFMC Girl’s Top 5 TV Shows:
1. Mad Men: My previous post pretty much sums up why this ranks number one on my list. This show is consistently good and it blew me away from the very beginning. Enough said.
2. Friday Night Lights: I love this show for the same reasons I love Mad Men. The other guys just do it a little bit better. The characters and their stories are compelling and the actors bring the words to life in a way that really touches you. The show is about so much more than just football, and if people could just get past the game, then I think they could really love it as much as the critics and FNL fans do.
3. Glee: This is a crazy, over-the-top show that touches upon some important issues in a way that’s entertaining and makes you think. The talent displayed on the show is amazing—I have no words for it. This cast has to be one of the hardest working on TV. I feel like I’m watching a musical every week, and I think that’s pretty impressive.
4. The Big Bang Theory: This show has the coolest bunch of geeks on TV. I tune in every week knowing I’m going to laugh my ass off and I actually do. Sheldon is one of the most well-written and well-acted characters on a sitcom and I love watching him interact with the other characters. I’m so excited to see how his character evolves next season.
5. Smallville: I admit, two big reasons I love this show are 1) Tom Welling is hot and 2) I’ve always loved the Lois and Clark/Superman relationship—it’s epic. But those aren’t the reasons why it ranks number five on my list. If you would have asked me five years ago where this ranked on my list, I would have probably said it was somewhere close to the bottom. The focus of the show veered away from Clark and his destiny and focused more on characters we really didn’t care about—cough…Lana…cough. Now that it’s gone through a complete reboot and headed in a whole new direction, it’s even better than ever, which is why it has moved its way up the ranks. It’s tenth and final season is going to be incredible.

Weekend Update: Clois Love, Barney's Playbook, Good Medicine, Original Heroes Are Back, Glee Crush, Office Mayhem, A 90210 Goodbye
Caught up on a lot of TV this weekend and just wanted to jot down a few thoughts about what I watched.
Smallville: Yes, the highly anticipated Pandora ep did not disappoint. I'm glad we finally got to see what exactly Lois saw a year into the future. It was disturbing and I hope our lovely group of superheroes does everything they can to stop it. Although a half-naked Clark is always a good thing on this show, I have to say that my favorite scene was at the end when Clark and Lois decided they were an official couple. The last shot of them in the elevator when she grabbed his hand was probably my favorite shot of the evening. I'm not gonna lie--I got all warm and giddy on the inside.
BTW...I can't believe I have to wait two whole months for a new ep. Ugh!
HIMYM: I loved this week's episode. I am a sucker for all things Barney. An episode centered around his playbook was genius. I can't remember all the of them, but it was awesome that one was called the Ted Mosby. You just knew there had to be one. Barney Stinson is definitely one of the best characters on TV today.
Trauma: This is my new ER if it lasts beyond its 13 or so eps. I really like the characters and am interested in seeing how they're developed. I hope NBC gives them a chance. It's highly dramatic but there's just something about it that grabs me. I can't quite put my finger on it. Although I suspect it's the complicated characters.
Mercy: I thought I'd given up on this show, but I kinda liked this week's episode. It renewed my interest in it. I kinda like that the Iraq doc is going out with the foreign doc. They're cute. The New Jersey Housewives making a guest appearance didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would. It was somewhat comical. I think I'll keep it on the Tivo list.
Heroes: I think I'm starting to get back into this show. This week the ep focused more on the original characters and I got all excited. Seeing Mohinder again made my week. I missed him. Now that I'm starting to understand what's going on with Samuel, this whole Carnival thing seems more interesting. I actually want to know what's going to happen next.
Glee: The "Endless Love" duet with Mr. S and Rachel was awesome! I really like the whole student crushing on teacher storyline. I mean what girl hasn't had a crush on a teacher at some point? His mash-up was great. Where can I get a copy?
I was also happy to see Hannah from Everwood (Sarah Drew) as a guest star. I hope they bring her back. The scene where Quinn's dad kicked her out was completely heartbreaking. I could totally feel her anguish--great job! I know I should be pissed at her for lying to Finn, but a part of me feels for her. That's what I like about this show--as irritating as the characters can be, I can't help feeling something for them.
The Office: I really don't know why corporate thinks inviting Michael to anything is a good idea. You'd think they'd learned their lesson after all these years. I think my favorite thing about this ep was how they added Oscar into the Michael-Dwight-Andy mix. It made for an interesting dynamic since Oscar is always snubbing his nose at them. BTW...his southern accent in the Murder ep had me in fits of laughter. Actually that whole ep was hilarious. I love it when they do silly eps like that one.
90210: I have to admit, Jackie Taylor dying broke my heart. When Kelly thought she died without saying goodbye and had a breakdown in the hallway--wow, I thought I was going to lose it. Jackie was a huge part of both Kelly's and Silver's dysfunction, but in the end she was able to make amends before dying with her daughters by her side. Yes, I shed a tear when Jackie Taylor died.
TV DVD Extra: I just finished season three of BSG and I can't wait to get to season four. I was totally shocked when they revealed the four cylons. Crazy! And the whole Starbuck thing? OMG...so cannot wait until I get the next disc.

Just Can't Get Enough
I seriously have a problem. I'm not sure how many times I've rewatched the Clois scenes from Friday night, but I just can't get enough of this dynamic duo. I think what I really enjoyed was just how funny and lighthearted their scenes were in this episode. The opening scene is the one that gets me every time. I just love the banter between them. So far this season of Smallville has not disappointed me. The reality has definitely matched the hype. OK, before I keep going on and on with my pathetic fangirl gushing, here's that opening sequence I mentioned. Enjoy!

Smallville: It Doesn't Suck to Be Lois Lane
Him:
Or him:
Hmmmmm? Wish I had decisions like this to make. Unsuspecting reporter who becomes Superman or billionaire playboy who's secretly the crime-fighting Green Arrow? Yeah, it really doesn't suck to be Lois Lane tonight.
This has been the episode I've been waiting 5 years for and I loved, loved, loved it! Lots of laughs, warm fuzzies, jealousy, tense moments and a non-Red K-induced Clois kiss!
Seriously, what more could I ask for? I'm giddy just thinking about it. And yes, I did watch it again immediately after--but only the Clois parts. I don't think I've been this excited about a TV couple getting together since Pacey and Joey. There's just something about an unattainable fictional relationship that makes me melt.
Anyway, back to the episode. After Clark was sent into the dog house last week for not telling Lois about Oliver's attempted suicide, he tried to redeem himself by helping her get a gig on a morning news show. One word: Hilarious! Clark Kent auditioning is some funny stuff. The banter is so fun between these two and the chemistry is hot. It's hard to keep your eyes off them, unless you're busy laughing at Clark's idiocy. My favorite scene had to be the one where Clark couldn't tell Lois one good quality she possesses that could attract a great guy. The looks on their faces--priceless!
While these two are busy with their unresolved sexual tension and trying to complete their first assignment, we have Major Zod and Tess, as well as Chloe and Supersmart Tech Guy (aka Stuart), engaged in a pissing contest. I have to admit, Chloe and Stuart fighting in the Battle of the Firewalls was kinda hot. I wonder if he's her new love interest. While they're doing that, Zod and Tess are arguing about The Blur because he knows she knows something, but she knows she needs to use The Blur as leverage. Yeah, that whole thing is one big power game. We'll see how it all plays out next week.
Meanwhile, we have Oliver back from the dark side and ready to help the youth of Metropolis. In his attempt to take a wayward girl under his wing, he and Lois are almost killed, but not before he declares his undying love to Lois. I have to hand it to the boy, he knows what it takes to get the girl. Too bad Clark has no clue. I can't believe Clark even thought about letting Oliver sweep her off her feet instead of fighting for her. Lucky for him, Lois' heart belongs to him. Stupid boy.
Thankfully, Clark decided to man up in the last few minutes and plant a big one on Miss Lane. And yes, I cheered and clapped. About time newsboy! Unfortunately, it looks like we won't find out about the fallout for two weeks. Next week is all about business again. Clark has to deal with the Kandorians AND Daddy Dearest. He's got his hands full--no time to analyze the kiss with Lois.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go watch the highlight reel again. Squeeeeee!

Super Duper
Is it sad that I'm totally psyched that Clark Kent (aka Tom Welling) is going to be at Comic-Con? Is it worse that I wish I were one of those comic geeks pulled aside to get a glimpse of the brand-spanking-new Superman costume for Season 9? Probably, but I don't care...Clark Kent is going to be at Comic-Con! This means new pics of him and the rest of the cast will be all over the place. Yay, yay, yay!
Although there are many reasons why I wish I could have attended this year's Con (Dexter, True Blood, Burn Notice...), this has got to be the biggest one of them all. For the first time ever, the entire cast of the current season is going to be up on that stage. Yes, I'm that much of a dork. I've reached a new level of geekiness, which has been brought out by Season 8. What can I say? I love their version of Lois and Clark. When it comes to comic book couples, they are epic.
OK, enough of my geeky fangirl giddiness. I'll just leave you with a pic of the epic couple doing their thing at the Daily Planet.

Smallville: Lois Returns
This was the episode I'd been waiting for, well, for a very long time. The Lana/Clark torture was brutal. But Lois finally returned and of course, Clark was a complete idiot. What else is new?
Lois has been gone for a month, you promise to pick her up, then you're 3 hours late. Not a good way to make an impression, Clark. I realize you had to save some people, but you have superspeedy powers. Surely you could have done it a little faster.
Tori Spelling is back as Linda Lake. Does she scare you as much as she scares me? Trying to take away Lois Lane's fame by striking a deal with the Red-Blue Blur. Sorry, but it's not in the cards for you. Lois Lane has exclusive rights to this deal.
Well, I suppose this is one way to tell Lois your secret, Clark. When words fail, actions speak much louder. I think she gets it--you can put her down now.
I love how Lois is fixated on the seeing-through-things power. Like covering your chest is going to make a difference. His powers are superstrong. Plus, he's Smallville--total Boy Scout.
Besides, he's already seen it all. Remember the bathroom encounter? If Clark had a sharper tongue, he would have brought that up. Anyway, I love how he's like, Lois, it's not like that, I have to focus. LOL!
This is the best billboard they could come up with for the Daily Planet? Really?! They needed to get some hotshot graphics intern on this, because this is just sad.
And this is why superheroes keep their identities a secret. The fans and paparazzi will never leave you alone. I love how is red stands out in the sea of people, because no one in Metropolis wears colors.
Awkward. Chloe, give up trying to be just friends with this guy. Don't you know? He wants to kill your best friend.
Of course, Tori...I mean Linda needs to get the last word. Funny how the press and people can turn on you in an instant.
Getting shot numerous times in the Kent house is probably not a good thing. Luckily, he can make it good as new in a matter of seconds. I guess coming out, in this case, wasn't such a good idea, Clark.
And the hits keep on coming. Linda Lake's latest smear campaign. Hello! Oliver Queen killed Lex. Duh.
You can tell Lois just wants to kick the little 90210er's butt. Do it, Lois. You can take her. Hands down.
And Clark saves Lois once again. And of course you'd bring her back to the barn. Isn't that where you take all your ladies?
This, by far, was my favorite scene of the night: "Some people spend their entire lives looking for a way to stand out, to be a person anybody would call special. When you first told me who you were my thought was anyone but Clark. And not because of the alien thing, I've known enough guys to know that you can be born on Terra Firma and be light years from normal. How could someone with X-ray vision be so blind? I've been down the hero road before, and every time I made a giant U-turn. This, this was different. And when you hit your reset button, you're not going to tell me your secret are you? That's OK. Why should I think I'm special? Clark, I understand."
"Lois, you don't understand. It's because you are special." Crap, Clark, crap! OK, it's obvious to everyone, including you, that Lois has a thing for you. I understand you're still trying to get over Lana--that the whole break-up is still fresh, but come on...don't lead her on! Don't have feelings for her yet? Fine. Scared? Fine. But don't give the poor girl that little bit of hope. Lucky I know you two are destined to be together or I really would have thrown something at the TV.
Meanwhile, Davis and Chloe are having their own heart-to-heart, but something tells me it's not going too well.
Yes, Chloe, run, run, run. Remember the last time you had a meeting with Doomsday? That didn't go over so well. Clark almost had to kill you. So I suggest you run faster.
Yeah, Linda Lake is always one step ahead. Hasn't this town run out of kryptonite yet?
This is why Lois is a much better match for Clark. She kicks ass, even without the special witch spells or the alien suit. She's perfectly capable of saving Clark. See? Perfect.
And we're back to where we started. Unfortunately, you put that ring on before Lois could warn you about Davis wanting to kill your Kryptonian ass.
And Linda Lake is silenced. Don't we all wish we could do this? ;)
Clark gets his second chance. I love how he's the little errand boy running after Lois.
Now things are getting awkward. I was wondering if they were ever going to mention the almost kiss. Unfortunately for us, our supercouple just wants to avoid the whole thing...at least for now. Fine!
I've always loved Chloe and Clark's relationship. Too bad she never existed in the original comics. You may want to hear Chloe out, Clark. A secret identity isn't such a bad idea. Although, I'd like to make one suggestion. You might want to start wearing glasses.
I knew Davis was good for something. No more Linda Lake. Yay! Sadly, Doomsday is probably the bigger threat.
How could you just leave her there, Clark? Hurry up and get over Lana quick. Lois deserves to feel special.
Overall, not a bad episode. Was it everything I'd hoped it would be? Not quite. I know we can't just throw Lois and Clark together, but those longing looks are killing me. I am glad we got a glimpse of what it would be like if the world knew the truth. I have to say the eps with Lois are much better than the ones without. I hope they recognize this and have her appear in every episode of season 9.

Smallville: Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead
OK, so I know the title of this post is a little harsh, but I have waited a long time for this Lana/Clark saga to end. I've watched every episode since this series started, and I've never been a fan of this couple. Yes, I know she was his first love, but I didn't think it was an epic love story like Lois and Clark. Before this rant gets too long-winded, I'll just say that I'm glad we can now focus on the real romance. I'm so excited about Lois' return. I hope Clark is, too!
Ahh, Oliver, traipsing in and making it know that you're the boss now. Yeah, that won't make you any enemies.
And the LuthorCorp boardroom (along with its board members) goes boom. Interesting that Tess was out of the country when this happened. I liked the way the debris morphed into the opening credits. What can I say? The little things entertain me.
I had to laugh when I saw that the supecouple broke the solid oak bed. I'd probably enjoy this more if it was me...errr...I mean Lois in that bed.
It still weirds me out that Lana has superpowers. Why does this not seem right to me? I never really felt that she was strong enough to be Clark's equal. She always seemed so whiny. Lois is a much better fit. :)
I had to include this shot. I love that face. Love that smile! Sigh...guess I can't blame Lana for sticking around. Who could deny that face?!
I love that this show casts really hot guys. This shot is here only because I love it when they take the shirts off the hot boys. Two in one ep...soooooo good.
Yes, take it as a bad sign that you can absorb krytonite. I will take it as a good sign.
This puppet is just creepy by itself, but to have Lex hide a camera in it just makes even more creepy.
Yes, walk away Chloe. Don't let Oliver's Jedi mind tricks make you feel guilty. You know Clark would want you to do the right thing. Or maybe you should just jump Oliver. You know you want to. Jimmy who?
And the infamous necklace reappears. Funny how her krytonite necklace is what kept you away from her at first. Could it be that we're coming around full circle?
Yeah, Oliver just looks hot all tied up. Imagine the possibilities...
And this is not one of them. Really Toymaker? You're going to blow up hot Oliver with a monkey? Why must you be so evil?
Yeah, this is not good for our star-crossed supercouple. But is good for all us Lois/Clark shippers!
Lex is one scary-looking creature, but you can tell he is loving every minute of this whole thing. It's not how star-crossed lovers meet that everyone remembers, but how they end. So true, Lex, so true.
What's it going to be Clark and Lana? Save the human race or your love?
And the human race wins! Lana's just sucking up all that kryptonite. You go, Lana!
And this is what happens when you absorb a ton of kryptonite. It keep Clark away from Lana. Have I say yay yet? Yay!
Boom goes Lex--so we think. I have a feeling that they're lying about finding Lex's remains. The Clark & Lana saga may be dead, but Lex definitely is not.
No, crazy Toymaker didn't blow up Lex--hottie Oliver did. That's OK, we still love him anyway.
Talk about the kiss of death. Really, Clark, it's so not worth it.
And now it's time to say goodbye. Bye, Lana. It's been nice. Now get the hell out of the barn!
Up next...the return of Lois Lane in Infamous!
