Getting My Groove Back

Well, it seems that I have once again decided to be a slacker when it comes to maintaining this blog. I swear, I watch all the shows, but for some reason as the season goes on I find it awfully hard to keep up with the writing part of this project. Perhaps I can ease back into it a little slowly this summer so I don’t feel so overwhelmed when the fall season starts.

First, let me say that I’m very sad to see that some of my beloved shows will not be returning in September. One of the saddest things I have to do, in regards to TV, is delete shows off my Season Pass list on TiVo. I’d like to take a moment to say good-bye to the shows I’ve lost:

Heroes: The first season of this show was amazing. The characters were so easy to love or hate, the storyline was intriguing and they even had a catchphrase everyone knew whether you watched the show or not. Sadly, they could never recreate the magic of that first season so viewers and the creator jumped ship. I felt like this past season was finally on the right path to getting it right, but sadly, the network felt like it had wasted enough time and pulled the plug. Oh well, I guess we’ll always have “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”

Trauma: One of the things I loved about this medical drama was the action. We weren’t stuck inside the walls of a hospital the whole time, which appealed to me. I really didn’t want a replacement for my beloved ER, but I needed something to fill my need for a medical drama. This show had potential, but sadly no one gave it a chance. Another time slot on another night probably would have given it a better shot, but I guess we’ll never know.

Mercy: NBC created two new medical dramas and decided to give them both the ax. They could have saved at least one of them! Of the two, they probably should have saved this one since they gave us such an insane cliffhanger. Now we’ll never know if the good doctor or the rugged yet lovable ex got killed. Thanks a lot! I’m so not forgiving you for that one. The other thing that really annoys me is that they finally gave James Van der Beek a role he was good in only to take it away. For a second I almost forgot he was Dawson Leery.

The Forgotten: Christian Slater can never catch a break and neither can I. Just when My Own Worst Enemy was getting good, NBC yanked it. So he went to ABC and the same thing happens. Although this was one of those procedural shows I loved the idea behind it—a group of volunteers solving the mystery of identifying and John or Jane Doe. Hell, at one point I found myself online trying to figure out how I could get in on one of these groups. Oh well, here’s hoping Mr. Slater finds a show that sticks.

FlashForward: I think this cancellation is the one that most infuriated me. Hell, even my sister called me up screaming and cursing ABC for not taking a chance on a second season. I admit it took me about two or three episodes to really get into the story, instead of just tuning in to see John Cho, but once I did, hell, I couldn’t stop watching. This was one crazy ride, and again I’m so pissed because they ended on an insane cliffhanger we will never resolve. As a thank you for that shitty move, I refuse to watch any of your new shows next season. So suck it, ABC!

Ugly Betty: Even though everyone lost hope in Betty, I still tuned in every week and thoroughly enjoyed her misadventures. I do think the ending could have been wrapped up much better, but with such little notice they did the best they could. It was a fun show with great characters and it will be missed.

Dollhouse: I loved the first season of this show, but my feelings for it this past season were up and down. One minute I loved it and the next minute I was like, huh? The series finale left me a little confused and unsettled, but hey, I guess that’s how it goes with these types of shows. Oh well, it had a good run and I was entertained for a short while.

As I look forward to the fall season, I’m most anxious about the tenth and final season of Smallville, Glee, The Big Bang Theory and Fringe. But for now, it’s time for me to focus on my summer shows, which include Friday Night Lights, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, My Boys and Mad Men.

I would say that Friday Night Lights is the best show on TV right now and my favorite. I can’t get enough of it. I’m so glad NBC and DirecTV found a way to save this show, because it really is fantastic—from the writing to the acting to the cinematography. I love everything about it.

Mad Men had always been on my radar, but I finally found time to start the series and have not been disappointed. I’m hoping to get all three seasons under my belt before the July 25 premiere. Fingers crossed.

OK, I think that’s enough updating for today. Hopefully this isn’t the last you hear from me this summer.

Ugly Betty: Fashion Week Fun

I have to say, I actually enjoyed this ep. I can't really figure out why. Is it because they finally gave her a potential love interest who seems to fit her and challenge her? Is it because it was Fashion Week and something interesting always happens? Or is it because it had a good moral that I identified with? I don't know, I just know I liked it.

I love Betty's energy and her go get 'em attitude, but she's a little bit of a kiss ass. Tone it down a bit. I'm wondering when she's going to get those braces off. Look at that grin!

Fashion girl meet sports guy. He's your partner for the entire year. Love it! The one thing that annoyed me about Betty during this whole ep was how she quickly dismissed sports guy and his magazine. She really is in no position to judge since she is fashion girl. There are a lot of stories to be told in sports. There's a story in everything if you look really hard. She says she wants to write about things that matter. Well, I think people matter--all people--and they have some really cool stories. I'm glad she was able to figure that out. Otherwise, I would have had to hit her over the head if I saw her on the street. And I have seen them filming near my building, so it could very well happen.

I always like it when Betty and Daniel have these heart-to-heart moments. It cracked me up when he mentioned that she'd need a new wardrobe if she became a fashion editor. Yeah, I agree. When you're in fashion, you need to look the part.

BTW...how ridiculous was the end of that fashion show? I lost it when Willy held up that baby among the dark angels. Mark was too funny with all those cues. It was all so lame, but I guess they needed something to up the cheese factor.

I'm really interested to find out what's going on with Molly. If she's pregnant with the ex's baby, that's really going to throw a kink into their relationship. Maybe it's something else. I hope we actually find out and it's not dragged out like Izzy's illness on Grey's.

Ugly Betty: Living the Dream

Yeah Betty, not sure why you're wearing that puffball either.

Nice try kid. High school student living in the city on his own? Yeah, really nice try, Justin.

I hear ya Betty, I had the fantasy, too. Reality is so much different. Except, I don’t have a cute rocker neighbor. I really wish I had one of those.

Does the dude sing everything? Ummm, that’s a weird ringtone. Getting a bad vibe about this guy. He’s just gonna use you, Betty. She’s the muse, blah, blah, blah, but he doesn’t feel that way about her. That’s how it’s all gonna play out. Call me cynic, but I’m not buying the kiss—he so needs her as the muse.

On my couch—that a euphemism for…LOL! I love Mark and Amanda! This reenactment is hilarious! Ummmmm, what’s going on with the kissing?

Willy’s getting the brush off. Yes, you were dissed Willy, big time! He’s still stuck on Molly.

Ummmm, really think it’s wise to be in a boxing ring with your girl’s ex, Daniel? I don’t think so. Connor is going to beat your ass and he doesn’t even know it’s you in the photo. Get out of the damn ring!

WTF is on top of Betty’s head?! It’s a big furrball. OMG…why must they make her look so ridiculous? Damn, you’re getting dissed Betty.

OMG…Betty is so gonna get Daniel in trouble. LOL…Betty running. This is such a comedy of errors. LOL…carnations. I agree, they’re not that bad. They just get a bad rap.

Now Willy knows the truth. Connor better watch his back.

Yes, Betty, totally had the same dream. Come back to reality.

Damn, I really thought Willy was going to make him suffer. Guess she’s getting soft.

Ummm, the gym again Daniel? Really? You so don’t have good judgment.

This guy’s getting on my nerves. He’s totally leading her on. I don’t see any good coming from this whole thing. Stop singing everything, man! I get it, you’re a singer/musician. I GET IT!

You’d think that having Amanda as a roommate would improve her fashion sense. I wish they’d update her look. It’s been long enough.

Nice comeback Papi. LOL

OK, yeah, Betty and rockstar don’t have much in common.

Oh no, Connor knows that you’re the guy in the pic. Run, Daniel, run! And now you’re screwed. You should have ran or told the truth.

Maybe Betty should run, too. This guy is so not worth staying in the city for, cuz with him it’s all about him. Me, me, me…lol.

Ummmm, you naïve twits. He’s dating Willy. Of course you’re in trouble. He’s totally going to conspire to take you down D-man.

What the hell is Willy wearing? It looks like some Victorian torture device. Really? You gave in that fast? You’re really getting soft.

Ahhh, Papi, you’re a cute sourpuss.

I knew it—Mark! Of course…that was a no-brainer.

Yes sir, the city really is beautiful at night. And that’s what makes it so hard to leave.

But family always makes it easier to come home.

Let’s see, what did we learn from this episode? Reality never lives up to your fantasies and don’t lie to your friends. All very good lessons. I still can’t get the puffball on top of Betty’s head out of my head. I really wish they’d put her in normal clothes already. And is it just me or is there a weird vibe going on between Papi and the nurse? Dare I say sexual tension? I really was kind of sad when Amanda and Betty said goodbye. I like when they had those moments. Oh well, I guess it’s back to their regularly scheduled program.
